Inspections & Reports

The focus of a fire inspection is to make the property owner or occupant aware of:

  • their responsibilities for maintaining fire safe buildings and
  • ways to prevent fire hazards.

The intent of fire inspections is that there will be a reduction in:

  • the number and severity of fires and
  • significant decrease in the risk to loss of life and property.

Fire Safety Plans

If your building requires a fire safety plan as listed under the Ontario Fire Code, Section 2.8 "Emergency Planning", our department has developed a Fire Safety Plan template to help you get started.

If you have any questions or need assistance with the templates, please contact the Fire Department Administration office.

File Searches & Reports

In order to conduct a file search for a property, we require:

  • a letter from the person requesting the search,
    • addressed to the attention of the Fire Chief, and
    • identifying what is being requested and why.

In addition to the request letter, we also require authorization from the current owner giving us permission to conduct the file search.

The current fee for fire searches is in the Tariff of Fees By-law & By-law Schedules

Cheques need to be made payable to the Township of Otonabee-South Monaghan.

To request a copy of a fire report, we require a letter from the person requesting the report.
